Paola Farmers Market Accepts SNAP and KSFMNP
We are pleased to announce we have been approved to accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments for the 2021 season. Farmers will be able to sell eligible foods through a centralized point of sale that accepts Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards with SNAP funds.
EBT cardholders should be aware we cannot provide access to cash or other benefits that may be on your EBT cards. Also, we have been exempted from providing a paper receipt. Instead, a balance will be provided on screen when your transaction is completed.
Through the centralized point of sale, we will also be able to assist our farmers with accepting credit and debit card payments if they do not have a way to do so on their own.
In addition to SNAP, Discover Historic Paola is working with all of its market vendors to help with accepting Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (KSFMNP) checks, which must be handled directly by the individual sellers.
The Paola Farmers Market
The Paola Farmers Market is an effort by the Discover Historic Paola Association (DHP) to bring the community together to Paola's iconic Park Square. There have been several instances of farmers market operations over the years in Paola when DHP took over the market in 2019. As DHP explored the opportunities and options for keeping the market as a touchstone in our community, we began exploring creative ways to make the market special. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, DHP carried out the combination of the classic summer performance series, Music on the Square, and the Paola Farmers Market to create the weekly Saturday evening event, Music and the Market.
